Canine Good Citizen

Show the world that your trained dog is worthy of the American Kennel Club's "Canine Good Citizen" (CGC) designation! This 10-item test highlights some of the important manners your dog needs to have. A dog that has been certified a "Canine Good Citizen" can be an ambassador for good training, can make it easier for you to find housing that will accept your furry friend, and can serve as a starting point for pet therapy, to name a few. A well-trained dog is something to be proud of. As dog owners' rights dwindle across America, we need to take a stand and fight for the ability to have dogs in more public places. The Canine Good Citizen test is a way to show your community what a trained dog looks and acts like.

The AHS offers CGC testing at least twice per year, in the spring at Pet Parade, and in the fall at the Shelter. Mailey McLaughlin, M.Ed., Training and Behavior Manager, is an AKC-certified Canine Good Citizen evaluator. The test fee is a $20 donation to AHS.
