2009 holiday fund drive

atlanta humane society tailwaggers donateDear Friend,

sweet puppy in need of a homeCan you imagine leaving a tiny baby alone and defenseless on a city sidewalk?

Neither can I. But that's what happened to Trooper and his six littermates one cold October night. If not for the kindhearted passerby who found the four-week-old pups and brought them to the Atlanta Humane Society, they surely would have died.

As it was, their prospects were grim. They were hungry, weak and shivering from exposure. And the runt, a raggedy fur ball who fit snugly in the palm of one hand, was barely alive.

Determined to save these precious babies, our veterinary team went to work. We gently treated each puppy. With every yelp and tail wag, our spirits lifted. But it was only when the runt showed signs of recovery that we breathed a collective sigh of relief.

"What a trooper," someone said. And the name stuck. Trooper.

Soon, the pups were ready for adoption. One by one, they found forever homes, until only Trooper was left. Because he was small and timid, no one seemed to want him.

But we continued to shower this courageous little guy with love. Then one day a family came in -- and with a few wet kisses he won their hearts.

Thanks to the kindness of friends like you, Trooper now has a yard to play in, a warm bed, food to eat and a caring family to call his own. He's a happy, healthy dog!

But countless other animals are still hurting and at risk.

Tough economic times have resulted in record numbers of abandoned pets -- innocent creatures left alone and vulnerable by humans who promised to love them. Because of this, our kennels are overflowing and our resources stretched to the limit.

Please, won't you help come to their rescue by joining in our Annual Holiday Fund Drive today?

Simply sign one, two or all three of the enclosed Gift Certificates and return them with the enclosed reply slip and your donation of:
• $20 to provide nourishing food
• $25 to provide lifesaving vaccinations
• $30 to provide safe shelter and care
• Or any amount to help dogs and cats in need

When you contribute to our Annual Holiday Fund Drive, you'll help save animals from terrible cruelty and suffering. And you'll also bring great joy to the caring humans who adopt these furry friends and make them part of their families.

Thank you for your ongoing support that helps bring happy endings to hundreds of deserving animals like Trooper every year.
