Atlanta Humane Society Partners with Animal Planet to Rescue Animals from Hoarding Case

Atlanta (February 9, 2011) Atlanta Humane Society is pleased to announce that the three successful rescue missions we conducted with Animal Planet in 2010 will air in February and March, 2011.  The episodes will premiere at 10 PM on Friday, February 11th, February 18th and March 4th.

We invite our media partners to run news articles promoting the series and Atlanta Humane Society’s participation.  We request that you not publish the name or address of the participants in the story, and that it be made clear that the participants who do surrender their animals to us do so voluntarily.  In all three cases the hoarder and their family have taken steps to address the problem with the help of Atlanta Humane Society.

“We are thrilled to partner with Animal Planet to save animals from desperate situations that can affect their health and physical safety,” says AHS President Carl Leveridge, “we hope to continue this partnership so we can save even more animals in our community.”

“Thank you again for all of your help”, says a spokesperson from Animal Planet, “we could not have done this without the assistance of Atlanta Humane Society.”

These stories will air on Animal Planet’s new hit series Confessions:  Animal Hoarding.  The series explores stories of people who own more pets than they can care for.  The problem of animal hoarding is little understood, but far more common than most people realize.  There are over 3,000 reported cases a year, and at least ten times that number that go unreported.  The series brings families together to voluntarily find human solutions that work for both pets and people.  If you know someone who might be an animal hoarder, you can learn more at www.animalhoardingproject.com

Atlanta Humane Society is open seven days a week, from 11 AM – 7 PM Monday through Friday and 10 AM – 6 PM Saturdays and Sundays.  Atlanta Humane Society is located at 981 Howell Mill Rd., Atlanta, GA  30318
