Thankful Pits

nashville pit bull raidOn November 22nd, members of the Atlanta Humane Society’s HEART (Humane Emergency Animal Rescue Team) program deployed to southern Georgia after being called to help with the bust of two possible pit bull fighting rings. This is the largest case that Atlanta Humane has helped with thus far.

The morning of November 23rd, our HEART crew split in two and went to the two different properties to assist. Aiding the Georgia Bureau of Investigation along with Norred and Associates investigative firm, we rescued a total of 118 dogs! Most were adult pit bulls, but there were also over 30 pit bull puppies, a couple of German Shepherds, and even a Chihuahua! Many had massive chains around their neck, which were attached to large barrels in which they called their home. No food was in sight, and many only had large buckets of green water to quench their thirst.

Needless to say, it was a long two days for our HEART crew, but they were more than happy to bring these guys home to Atlanta. As always, these dogs will be evaluated and placed for adoption once all their needs have been cared for, which includes vaccinating, deworming, spaying or neutering, and microchipping.
