Atlanta Humane Society Named as Contestant in ASPCA Challenge to Raise Pet Adoption Numbers

AHS & Other Animal Shelters are Helping Dogs and Cats Find Loving Homes

ATLANTA (August 18, 2010) – The 'Save More Lives: ASPCA $100K Challenge' has named the Atlanta Humane Society as one of 50 contenders for the grand prize. Animal shelters across the country are challenged to find loving, forever homes for more pets this year than last year during the same three month span: August, September and October. The winning shelter with the highest pet adoption numbers will receive $100,000 from the ASPCA.

The Atlanta Humane Society and animal shelters across the country are at the starting line of what is sure to be an incredible competition! The ASPCA challenge has Atlanta Humane Society gearing up for exciting special events during those months.

"I'm so excited about this challenge, and I'm looking forward to the fun and unique events we're putting together," said Karla Dempsey, Atlanta Humane Society's Special Events Manager. During the pet adoption challenge, animal shelters are also encouraged to engage their community. There is a $25,000 prize for the shelter that gets the most people involved through diverse events. "We're fortunate to have incredible supporters and neighbors, and we definitely have our eye on the community engagement prize," Dempsey continued.
