Just heard from Chato and he is doing well post surgery! They just finished grafting a little while ago and he will be recovering for the next several days. An updated invoice will be available shortly. I am hoping to visit with him Friday. They are hoping to release him before Christmas.
Thanks, B

Visited Chato this morning and he is doing really well. He was running outside; playing ball and chasing squirrels!
He has adjusted well to having one eye! He loves a good game of tug-of-war and having all the attention!
They cultured his skin last week and found a bacteria that was resistant to the oral antibiotics but that is responding well to a topical cream.
Valerie said she asked for an invoice and that it should be in the mail. He
is up to about $8,500 now. They will determine in about a week how much
grafting he will require.
Hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving!

Hi All,
I was able to visit with Chato on Friday and he was truly amazing! He was walking the hallways with tail a waggin'! He found his way outdoors to potty, but quickly decided he had rather retreat to his run where his dinner was waiting! He likes his new living quarters outside of ICU and has made many, many friends. Although he has a long way to go in his path to recovery, he has already made an incredible journey! What true testament of the canine spirit!
Thanks, B

Just heard from UGA and Chato is doing great! He is out of ICU and is eating chicken on his own. They said he is a cry baby and demands attention! He loves people but may have other dog issues according to the student today. They will remove his eye on Wed. The other eye looks good!
Thanks,
Belinda Bell

After being burned on November 3rd and receiving treatment at the Atlanta Humane Society Clinic, Chato was taken to the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine for further treatment and medical care.
Chato was visited by Belinda Bell, our Director of Services after work on Friday and he seems to be doing as well as can be expected. He had just come from having an ultra sound on his heart because they thought he may have developed a murmur due to infection. Fortunately, that was not the case and is heart is doing well. They are attempting to remove him from the really heavy drugs and from ICU. This will greatly reduce the cost of his daily care, although they are still looking upwards of the $10,000 estimate. Dr. Cornell said they may ask for a little more of the down payment soon. The doctors are hoping that they will be able to make a determination as to the extent of surgery he will require by Monday.
He was completely bandaged from neck to hind quarter when she finally got to see him. He was also still a little whoozy from being sedated. The student doctor brought him some chicken which he ate eagerly, however, they do still plan to keep his feeding tube in for a little longer.
The doctors are completely taken by Chato! He would be an awesome therapy dog for burn and war victims.
They are thinking that they may amputate his tail so they will have a little extra skin for the graphs, but that decision is not yet final. His eye has also not yet been removed. He will still need to be there for several more weeks.
Chato is truly amazing! He has such a strong spirit and his will to survive is truly inspiring. The doctors were in tears when they spoke of how he wags for them and lays down to have his tender belly rubbed.
