Grieving for an animal companion?
To help people cope with the death of a pet, the AHS offers Mend-A-Heart group counseling sessions. These hour-long sessions are held at the Howell Mill Campus on the second Saturday of each month at 11am in the Administrative Area.Mend-A-Heart sessions are conducted by a friend of the AHS, Linda Ehlers, who holds a Masters degree in community counseling and education from Georgia State University. Ms. Ehlers is also available for individual counseling (call 404.250.9148). The main objective of the group is to generate mutual support and comfort for each other. Haute Hounds and Couture Cats
On Monday, February 13, The Atlanta Humane Society will present ‘Haute Hounds and Couture Cats’ fashion show and luncheon, hosted by Saks Fifth Avenue.
Chair Melanie Boltax has lined up some of our own local fashionistas to showcase the latest styles for this Best of Spring 2012 Fashion Show. Her line up includes Cindy Voyles, Kay Quigley, Merry Carlos, Ruth Dobbs Anthony, Sue Longman, Cheryl Espy, Johanna Ellis, Susan Gordy, Tony Conway, Travis Reed and Chris Carlos. Accompanying our models will be the most adorable, cuddly members of the Atlanta Humane Society to ever hit the runway!
In addition to a wonderful lunch prepared by A Legendary Event, we will have several fabulous raffle items… Saks will be donating a spectacular new designer handbag. And… after lunch, everyone is invited to shop the afternoon away as 5% of sales will be donated to the Atlanta Humane Society for their spay/neuter initiatives. Atlanta Humane Society has altered more than 8,000 animals so far this year and anticipates altering at least 13,000 next year as their low cost/high volume spay/neuter program kicks into high gear.

No Ball At All
Yes, it's not a black tie event. In fact, you don't even have to go anywhere. Contributions to the pet fundraiser are made to the AHS, and "party guests" can stay at home, prop up their feet, soak in a bubble bath, and simply relax, knowing that 100% of their donation supports the animals at the Shelter. A thank you party for contributors at the Patron level ($350/individual or $700/couple) is held in a fabulous, private home.

Pet Parade 2012 - A Walk for Animals
You can help support fundraising for animal shelters and assist our ongoing efforts to save the lives of Atlanta’s most deserving pets by joining us for the 22nd annual Pet Parade fundraiser! On Saturday, April 21, 2012, animal lovers and their pets will come together for the Atlanta Pet Parade to support the Atlanta Humane Society. All pet owners and pet lovers of all ages are invited to participate. There is a registration fee for the walk, but admission is free for all other activities.Fun Fundraising for Animal Shelters!
Did you know that it costs the Atlanta Humane Society about $300 per pet to find safe and loving homes for our sheltered animals? The Atlanta Pet Parade is AHS’s largest fundraising event and 100% of the proceeds directly support the AHS. A full day of events will include an array of adoptable animals, vendors, games, contests, training demonstrations, and displays by local rescue organizations. In addition to great contest prizes, all fundraisers will have a chance to win fabulous rewards for reaching set fundraising goals. Trophies will be awarded to the top fundraisers and fundraising teams.

According to the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, "Every effort should be made to expose [puppies] to as many different people, well-socialized animals, situations, places, etc. as possible."
