Humane Education
At the Atlanta Humane Society, we believe that education is the key to the prevention of cruelty and neglect of our animal companions.
Tips, Tours, Reading, and More
- Pet Owner Tips: Learn more about taking care of your new dog, cat, or rabbit as well as appropriate seasonal (summer and winter) information for your new friend.

Other Programs Currently Available
Lunch & Learn (adults; 1 hour) focuses on any shelter or animal welfare-related topic(s) you choose. Companies often set up these informative presentations for their employees as a way to generate interest in volunteering, general pet care, adopting a pet from a shelter, and the role that shelters play in the community. Programs typically last an hour, but longer times are available (and they don't have to be during lunch). Video and an accompanying PowerPoint presentation are included, plus handouts and information for attendees. Presentations include a question & answer session about pet behavior.
Your pet & your new baby (adults; 45 minutes) focuses on educating parents-to-be on the best ways to make an impending birth easier on the family pet and vice-versa. You don't have to give up your pet during this joyously hectic time if you take the proper steps several months in advance. This program is available for groups of 5 or more; it is often given at baby supply stores, community centers, and other places where expecting parents congregate.
Are you a Brownie Troop or Girl/Boy Scout Troop leader? Is your group interested in assisting the AHS mission? Kids can't volunteer officially until they are 18, but many groups elect to participate in our Wish List Donation Tour. Groups hold a drive of any size (it can be as small as one item brought from home for each troop member or as large as a church-wide, neighborhood-wide, or school-wide affair--it's up to you) to collect money and/or items from our wish list. The group schedules a tour and brings the items with them when they come. We take pictures and the kids get official "thank-you's" in our quarterly newsletter and on this site. It's a great way to do something positive for animals and kids at the same time. For more information, call 404.974.2899 to schedule or email us.
